Launch of jane-a-porter.com, come and say Hi!

Hey everyone!
I am very excited to announce that my blog jane-a-porter.com has been launched (or re-launched!) I have decided to mainly lay my focus on fashion/beauty and so I though it is time to say goodbye to this little baby and create a new one with its own domain name.

I am beyond excited and can't wait to post regular content on my new blog!

Three outfit posts have gone up so far, but please bear with me, there is definitely more to come.

But anyways, head over and say hi :))

xx

The one about being conscious

The absolute worst for me, is to just be "alive".
Waking up in the morning, ticking the boxes of your daily routine, going to bed at night.
It is tiring me and I realise that I am nothing else but existing.

I wallow in memories of the past and wonder about the future ahead of me. Instead of living in this exact moment.

There have been times like these in the past, once I`m in it, it is hard to get out of there again. It is like living surrounded by a grey cloud. You are practically there, present, but just fogged. While it is hard for the sun to get through.

Photography has helped me a lot this time. The thing about it is, it captures this exact moment. No past, no future. Just this one moment. This one second you`re hitting the release. This one second where the light shines brighter than the second before, this one second a person laughs an exceptional laugh, louder and wider than the second before.

Consciousness. That is what I was looking for, for such a long time. Being in the moment. Accepting yourself in this moment of time and appreciating the beauty and uniqueness of it.

QUINOA AND KALE

-Nope, these are NOT the only things I eat!

It`s been almost 3 weeks now, where I have been trying (up until now pretty successfully) to go temporarily vegan. I have to say, I have always been pretty aware of my diet, but not in a “trying-to-be-Heidi-Klum-supermodel-like” aware, more in “I-prefer-the-healthy-me-better-than-the-junkfood-me” aware. If you get what I mean?
Too often I experienced this veeeery unsatisfied feeling of abdominal fullness (great word..!), bloating, and/or other consequences… (TMI! but we all have been through this…)

So, years ago, with the help of a test, which, roughly said, estimated your “diet type”, I got to know which things are good for my body and which are simply not. Easy, right? But simultaneously this meant for me; no burgers, no huge meals including loads of red meat, and only a few things, which would include dairy. Yes, I know, all the fun things…
But guess what? No more bloated bellies, no more discomfort after meals AND no endless craving for food. Good news! :)
So, since I realised that red meat is basically poison for my body, I decided to go vegetarian, which is now a couple of years ago. It`s not that I don`t like eating meat, don`t get me wrong! But, I just preferred how my body felt after eating a salad, then after eating a burger (or other meaty food, of course^^)

“So why going vegan then?” “Is veggie not enough challenging?” To be honest, my decision on going vegan was quite spontaneous. PLUS, I like challenges. ;) So, when Christmas was over and I was about to go back to London, I said to myself that this would be the perfect opportunity to go vegan. Temporarily.
I just think, that especially cities like London, offer a huge variety of vegetarian and also vegan food.

After more than two weeks, I can now finally talk about some of my experiences:
1.     YES sometimes it is F****** hard! I never had a problem with my vegetarian diet, but vegan is another pair of shoe we are talking about…
2.     You prefer cooking at home for yourself, rather than running to the next place to get your take-out dinner. Which is kinda nice as well, I LOVE cooking ;)
3.     No snacking or nibbling of yummy stuff like crisps, (YES, most of them include MILK, what the heck?!)
4.     You realise the shocking truth of the unnecessary use of diary/animal products in most of the ready to eat products and even cosmetics. (see nr.3…)
5.     There are great alternatives to diary/meat products. Such as coconut, soya or almond milk, olive oil spread (instead of butter) or dried soya as an alternative to minced meat.
6.     Regular retail shopping is no longer an option. Instead “Whole Foods Market” or small independent organic shops, as well as street markets, are my go-to at the moment.

I     I have to be honest, I think it is going to be hard to keep up with this kind of nutrition, especially when going back home to Switzerland. However, I think it has taught and showed me a lot and I will definitely keep up with some of the vegan options. Such as almond milk, Chia seeds and YES Quinoa too! ;)

All in all, I think going vegan is something worth trying if you experienced similar "symptoms", which I mentioned at the beginning. However, I think that the vegan nutrition is not meant for everyone. Simply because every person and body is different. I truly believe though, that we should listen more carefully to our body. Especially when it comes to nutrition and lifestyle.

It`s been a while....

Hi all!

It`s been a while... "A while" in this case means more than a year! Quite a tumultious year I have to admit, including: A breakup, jobs, traveling, falling in love, moving to London, starting University and chopping off my hair again! (just to name a few..) Yep, 2015 has been one of the craziest years so far..! AND I`ve been missing blogging AF! So here I am, back again! <3

A few changes regarding this little babe here will also occur: ABOUT JENNA should become more of a lifestyle blog, rather then only fashion. This would mean, more posts engaging topics like art, music, books, traveling, feminism... (so basically all the things, which are romping around in my mind)

ALSO: great news! you now have the aaaaamaaaazing opportunity to follow me on Instagram! (about_jenna)
And yes, it`s just Instagram up until now.. This is due to a horrible learning disorder of mine, towards new forms of media. (Or because I am just not really a birds person, if you know what I mean) ;)

So stay tuned&talk to u soon!

Let the game begin

Boyish, brutal or just kinky?
Well yes, but also pretty addictive with an impressive storyline and very strong actors!
When my boyfriend, who is an absolute series junkie, recommended me The Game of Thrones, I never thought I am ever going to like this. Except for Harry Potter, I`ve never been a fantasy fan and I could not imagine watching "such crap".
So he used his persuasion skills and I decided to watch the very first episode, with the intention not to watch further on but.. OH BOY. All the "GoT" watchers out there will secretly laugh now, cause as you may have guessed already, I watched the second one, the third one, fourth and so on.. Trapped in an addictive "GoT" spiral, I watched every single episode, every youtube clip with the actors talking about their role, read every single interview I could possibly find and I even started dreaming and raging about the incidents.. Well, I guess thats called an addiction.
I cannot stop raving about the series and I do not even know what exactly it is what makes it so special. Its certainly not the slaughtering, not those many sex scenes, not the dragons or all the other weird creatures that appear, I am just so impressed by the idea of writing (filming) such a great story for years and years and still being able to capture such a big and diverse audience.

So if you are not already a GoT watcher/reader, I hope with this post, to prove that you do not have to be a fantasy fan to like this series, I can just encourage you to watch the very first episode without prejudices and see what it will provoke inside you! :)

All the best,

J*

THINK before INK

Hey Guys,
I have always been a huge tattoo fan! I love the idea that your body states a piece of "art", which you can easily garnish and decorate. Yeah, "easy" to get one, but it`s also a fact, that it is even harder (and painful!) to get rid of it if you do not like anymore...
Additionally, I believe that a tattoo should always have a special meaning to you. Just getting a random one was never my intention! So, about 5 years ago I started doing some research, looking at hundreds of pictures on Pinterest of celebrities and bloggers who have a tattoo, where they have it and what font they used. So I was really THINKING BEFORE INKING!
I totally fell in love with Andy`s lovely little "Smile" tattoo she got on her rib cage. (This is actually her own handwriting btw! Very lovely I think!) Since this placement is apparently very easy to cover, if the tattoo wouldnt be suitable for an event or whatever, I decided to get one there as well!
Cause, I am about to finish school in a few weeks, I decided to "mark off" this event in my life by getting a tattoo, which will always remind me of that time..
What it will look like and what message I gonna carry for the rest of my life, is my little secret for now! ;)
But I`ll assure you, there are pictures coming sooner than you think! :)

Have a lovely, sunny afternoon!

No,No! NO-GO!

Hi all!

It is getting warmer and sunnier, birds chirping, flowers and trees blossoming.. and so our clothes! Fresh and bright colours replace boring black and grey and more and more layers stay at home! Finally!
Finally? uuhm? Cause, this equally means more fashion crimes get committed.. You think you are not one of those? Wait for it:
Today I was wandering through the city, not thinking about anything but then... SHOCK!
The fashion crime police spotted its first victim of the year! A not very skinny girl, wearing jeans shorts with half-transparent tights AND the crotch of them in the middle of her thighs.. OH MY..
I must say, those crotches are one of the things the fashion industry really could get rid of! And once in a while, I catch myself trying desperately to cover these crotches. But I have never seen something like this before..
I know its hard, I especially find it hard to find the perfect pair of tights, but always, ALWAYS check your outfit before leaving the house, if you are wearing a dangerous dress or shorts determinate to show off crotches!

Have a very lovely evening and enjoy the sun!

xoxo

This year.. I promise...

Usually, I am not that kind of person, who sets crazy and almost impossible New Year`s resolution to achieve during a new year.. However, this year I decided to finally kick my own butt!
(and yes, it started pretty well!)
Here are some of the goals I set myself:

-doing Yoga or Pilates on a regular basis
-stop eating between the meals (like crisps or other evil stuff...)
-stop drinking soda
-go to the Gym more often and get a defined body for bikini season
-stop spending money on nail refills
-Stop spending money on clothes or shoes I already have

So these are quite a lot of goals, I know.. But since this is the second week of the new year, I`am doing pretty good!
I have been to the Gym twice a week, I only drink water, didnt buy new clothes(!) and I declared crisps to be my worst enemy!
What about you? You have any goals you wanted to achieve? And what are your motivations to do so?

Now off to a great 2014!

Freaking Freezing..

Since I was a little girl I totally loved winter, especially in Switzerland; landscapes are covered with white, powdery snow, people generally slow down, are nicer to each other and the sound of christmas music join our day.
However, my appropriate shoe selection narrows down to the minimum... So every winter, I ask myself: What shoes can I wear, other than big fat boots or UGGS, to keep my feet warm, comfy and dry (!) and still look fashionable?!?
As I mentioned, I am an owner of UGGS, because they are warm! And yes, I recognized that these are not the most elegant shoes on earth but they keep me WARM! Maybe you are lucky and don`t find yourself in this annual plight, because you live in a big city or on a place where there is simply no winter... but for those who visited Switzerland in its most coldest season, will know, ITS FREAKING FREEZING!
So, the sad and harsh truth is; I have not yet found a wonderful pair of warm, comfy winter shoes that will be my companion during this calm and peaceful time!

Have a lovely and merry pre-christmas time!
